Sociological Mindfulness

At the beginning of the video, the guy started out by trying to get you to put yourself in the shoes of a Chinese man who has come over to the United States in search of coal. He wanted you to think about how you would feel coming over and taking the coal and getting your country wealthy. Next after that he wanted you to put yourself in the shoes of a Muslim man and then in the shoes of an American soldier. He wanted you to feel the emotion and feelings of both sides, and decide where each one stands in each individual situation. He tries to get you to feel bad for the people in each situation and he tries to get you to understand why each one has done what they have. Now although I think a lot of the situations and examples are extremely radical and I do not believe they are the most valid examples, they do give a strong messaged. He uses these examples to get you to use empathy and feel what the other people are feeling. Throughout our life times I believe whether we know it or know we use empathy quite often, and we put ourselves in other peoples' shoes to feel how they feel so we can accurately decide how you should handle the situation or decide what you would do in the situation. One example of sociological mindfulness in my life would be I saw a smaller child in our school who was being picked on and made fun of. When I saw this I put myself in his situation and I thought to myself how would I feel if I was being picked on and made fun of like that. I decided I would not like that at all and I would feel awful, so I decided I would step in and help. I felt what he was feeling and I didn't like it so I stepped in and helped him in the situation. Lastly, in society I think that I fit in as a middle class person who can make a difference and impact my local community. I don't view myself as lower class or higher class but I feel that in society I fit in the middle. In society I feel that my role is to work and provide for others. I feel that I will be successful when I grow older but I don't think that I will be a stand-out name. I feel that my role in society will be to work with others to get the best possible outcome in any situation. I think that I will be more of a laid back person who goes with the flow of others, but I will also stick up for things I believe in.
